State Of The Nation

All eyes were on our President and Ministers as they paraded their expensive clothing and made more promises last week at the State of the Nation address for 2011.

The State of the Nation address is quite an important occasion where the President addresses the nation and gives us insight into the current economical situation in our country and the way forward. The time was moved this year so that the occasion took place just as everyone was about to leave work which didn’t make sense to me at all. Nobody could really watch the President’s speech as we were all trying to hurry out of a very busy CBD.

I shouldn’t complain, but since this is my blog, I think I’ll do exactly that. The person who came up with the very bright plan of having the State of the Nation in peak hour traffic should try getting out of town after a long working day. Maybe this way he/ she will know why it’s not a good plan to try and make people watch this on TV when everybody is still in town, or at least half of Cape Town’s population.

I have a better idea. I think having this occasion later in the evening or even during the day would be so much more beneficial to everyone. I would also be able to enjoy my drive home.
