You're getting ready to go out and have to think of what you can wear. Your cupboard is a mess, yet you manage to pull out that Levi jeans and a brand new baby phat top. A pair of Jimmy Choos catches your eye, which you quickly slip on and then add a quick dab of DKNY so you can smell good.
Most of us aspire to earn enough money to afford these luxuries. Americans are wearing them so they must be the best thing since Michael Jackson, right? WRONG.
South Africa and even Cape Town is original and unique, so why should the population follow the rest of the world? We have the ability to start our own trends and design quality clothes that are cheap, yet stylish.
There are boutique stores in South Africa, but many of us don't buy their clothing, as they are way too expensive. It is for this reason that a new store will be opening in Cape Town . Quality designer wear at low prices. Think YDE, but better and without big business taking over it and making prices ridiculously expensive.
Designers struggle to get their clothing noticed. This store is a chance for designers to showcase their talent and for young people all over Cape Town to look fabulous and original.
Watch this space. If you would like to know more, keep following this blog, or if you're a designer, e-mail me at megan@dkc.co.za and I'll make sure that the owner of the best thing to happen to Cape Town since the World Cup gets your message!

If I was the boss
No person is perfect and therefore no boss will be perfect, but if I were the boss I would strive for perfection. Perfection in my skill as a leader and my team.
A boss should not only think of himself or herself, but should constantly have the teams needs in mind also. The team looks up to the boss and the boss creates what kind of environment the workplace becomes. If the team is unhappy with the environment they're working in, the bosses main aim should be to keep the team happy so that they can be productive.
Many bosses don't realise that their staff's happiness and the businesses productivity have a lot to do with one another. If your staff is happy, they will be productive.
If I were the boss I'd make it my mission to keep everyone happy and be friendly, helpful and show my staff that I care about their needs as much as those of the business.

A mother's touch
A mother's touch can cure all aches and pains. It can heal a broken heart and help when you're hurting. As most of us know, there is no better feeling when you're young and innocent without a care in the world.
So what about the percentage of us who don't know what this feels like? I'm talking about the children who don't receive that affection. Not because they don't have a mother, but because the one they have just doesn't care.
This can have all kinds of effects on a child growth and what kind of a person he or she eventually turns out to be.
I'm writing this blog as a plea to anyone who plans on having children. To see the way young mothers treat their children, the way they ignore them or treat them as an irritation, makes me want to scream. If you don't think you can handle being a mother, use protection! Do something, but don't make another life just because you can.
Nobody starts off as a bad person. Something makes them that way, and I firmly believe that a nurturing, caring mother can make all the difference in the world.

Two people walk out of a building and into a story
The meeting of two people can be quite profound in certain situations. We meet new people everyday, yet don't realise how those meetings can effect our lives and the lives of those around us.
The meeting of Nkosi Johnson and Gail was such a profound meeting. One needed love and the other had love to give. Nkosi, an AIDS victim was actually the one who had love to give. He showed South Africa what the meaning of love is. True, unconditional love does not discriminate and cares for everyone, AIDS victim or not.
Nkosi's story is so special for me not only because he had the courage to change South Africa's perceptions about the disease, but also because he would've been my age, but with an even brighter future if it had not been for the desease that took him away.
Nkosi said in his speech in 2000, "care for us and accept us - we are all human beings." Gail could do this after her meeting with the boy, so why can't we. Try to see meetings with new people as exceptional or special, you might be able to change a life the way Gail did.

State Of The Nation
All eyes were on our President and Ministers as they paraded their expensive clothing and made more promises last week at the State of the Nation address for 2011.
The State of the Nation address is quite an important occasion where the President addresses the nation and gives us insight into the current economical situation in our country and the way forward. The time was moved this year so that the occasion took place just as everyone was about to leave work which didn’t make sense to me at all. Nobody could really watch the President’s speech as we were all trying to hurry out of a very busy CBD.
I shouldn’t complain, but since this is my blog, I think I’ll do exactly that. The person who came up with the very bright plan of having the State of the Nation in peak hour traffic should try getting out of town after a long working day. Maybe this way he/ she will know why it’s not a good plan to try and make people watch this on TV when everybody is still in town, or at least half of Cape Town’s population.
I have a better idea. I think having this occasion later in the evening or even during the day would be so much more beneficial to everyone. I would also be able to enjoy my drive home.

Design PR
I have many interpretations of what design PR can be defined as. Some of these definitions make sense and others are just a result of random guessing.
Design public relations could be the creative way that PR has developed. We are sometimes seen as innovative thinkers and often have to be whatever a client wants us to be. We have to be photoshop experts, marketing executives, interior designers for events and so much more.
Design PR could also be the superficial side of PR that celebrities and famous designers are covered by. Here we deal with spinning stories and telling lies, which isn't really what PR is supposed to be about.
The truth about public relations management as seen by a B-Tech student and junior account executive is that public relations is about design, but to a certain extent. The design in PR lies in how we manage a crises, build relationships and brands.
The word design has to do with the planning and the process in developing something. PR is much the same, but we do the planning and processes within a business context.

How to get through a blue Monday alive
As we all know, negativity is the best friend of a blue Monday. Everyone, everywhere hates it and loaths leaving the lovely weekend behind.
How do we get through this evil day with a smile? We can't. Alteast not until its the end of the day and we see beautiful Tuesday coming closer.
If you think about it, we actually make ourselves miserable. It's not Mondays fault at all! I could be happy that I'm even alive today and thank my lucky stars, but no. Oh no, I choose to live in misery because its a bad bad Monday.
Today, I'm choosing to have a bright sunny Monday with rainbows and kitten fur. I will love work 2day and love the lovely two classes I have afterwards. I will not make rude gestures in traffic today, or use any rude language.
We could all do with a little bit of positivity today and every other Monday, just to make it a little bit more bearable.

I am.......
Have you ever wondered what your purpose on this earth is? How you can make the world a better place? What the next episode of gossip girls will be about? (A total waste of tv time if you ask me)
My name is Megan Sonnenberg and I was born and raised in Cape Town by a single parent who managed to raise a fairly decent young lady.
I'm pondering my purpose at this very minute and have still not come to a conclusion. Yes sad, but true. We all come into the world, live our lives as best we can and then its over. People will hopefully cry for you at your funeral, have a few snacks, sing a few songs and then move on.
I'm not trying to be morbid or gloomy at all, just stating a fact. I am... just a speck of dust in a place called the world!
You might argue that we're here to learn some lesson or maybe help somebody out in some way. Could be that that's true, but right now I just feel like a small fish in a realy big pond.
This fish has teeth though, so watch this space.
